
TRAINING MANUAL
1. Introduction
Welcome to Lorco Shooting Academy. Our purpose is to equip shooters of all experience levels with the knowledge, skills, and discipline required to handle firearms safely and competently in accordance with Victoria's Firearms Act 1996 and national safety standards.
We operate under Victoria Firearms Licence #40856760F, and all instructors are accredited professionals with law enforcement, military, or competitive shooting experience.
2. Academy Objectives

3. Legal Framework
All activities conducted at Lorco Shooting Academy comply with:

Firearms Act 1996 (Vic)

Victoria Police Licensing & Regulation Division guidelines

State and federal safety requirements

Range operator and dealer licensing obligations

Participants must abide by the law at all times. Breach of firearms law may result in immediate expulsion and notification to authorities.
4. Firearms Safety Rules
These are the Four Universal Safety Rules:

Treat every firearm as if it is loaded.

Always point the muzzle in a safe direction.
-
Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
-
Be sure of your target and what’s beyond it.
Mandatory PPE: Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times while on the range.
5. Range Commands and Etiquette
Commands must be followed immediately.
Key commands include:

“Range is hot” – Live fire may commence

“Cease fire” – All shooting stops immediately, finger off trigger

“Unload and show clear” – Open action, empty chamber shown to the instructor
-
“Range is cold” – Firearms are cleared; participants may move forward to targets
Etiquette:

No handling firearms when the range is cold
-
Respect spacing and do not distract others
-
Always await instructor approval before loading
6. Firearm Handling and Maintenance
Safe Handling:

Always control muzzle direction
-
Check and double-check chamber status
-
Store firearms unloaded in approved containers
Basic Maintenance:

Clean firearms after every use
-
Inspect for wear, corrosion, and obstructions
-
Never attempt repairs beyond your level of training
7. Ammunition Awareness

Use only factory-manufactured ammunition unless otherwise authorised

Do not use damaged, corroded, or mismatched rounds

Store ammunition separately from firearms
-
Know the ballistic characteristics of your ammunition
8. Disciplinary Guidelines
Infractions may result in:

Verbal warning

Immediate removal from training
-
Written incident report
-
Ban from future participation
-
Notification to licensing authorities (if required)
Zero tolerance for drugs, alcohol, unsafe handling, or aggression.
9. Code of Conduct

Be punctual and respectful

Follow all instructor directions

Maintain equipment responsibly

Do not bring unlicensed individuals onto Academy grounds without pre-approval

Always act in the interest of safety, legality, and professionalism
